SAF IN BRUNEI FOR 18-COUNTRY DISASTER RELIEF EXERCISE
13 Jun 2013
More than 1,800 people, 18 helicopters, seven ships and 18 countries. All these will come together at what is possibly the biggest exercise this region has ever seen.
The exercise is conducted under the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting - Plus grouping, which involves the 10 ASEAN countries, along with the "Plus" countries Australia, China, India, Japan, Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Russia and the United States.
It is the first Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief and Military Medicine exercise by the group.
The exercise will be held in Brunei from 17 to 20 Jun. Military forces will practise responding to a disaster together, in the areas of search and rescue, military medicine, engineering work and giving out aid.
The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) will take part in the exercise with 340 troops, one Landing Ship Tank, four Super Puma helicopters, as well as medical and combat engineer assets.
