S'PORE DEPLOYS LANDING SHIP TANK TO THE GULF

As part of Singapore's contribution to the multinational effort in support of the reconstruction of Iraq, a Singapore Armed Forces' Landing Ship Tank is now heading to the Gulf for a three-month deployment.

Led by the Commanding Officer of 191 Squadron, Colonel Bernard Miranda, and its 180-strong crew were sent off by Chief of Navy Rear-Admiral Ronnie Tay on 4 Feb.

During its deployment, will provide logistics support for coalition vessels and helicopters, conduct patrols and boarding operations, and protect the waters around key oil terminals.

Singapore's previous contributions in support of Iraq's reconstruction efforts included the deployment of two Landing Ship Tanks, a C-130 transport aircraft and two KC-135 tanker aircraft.
