The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) are conducting a bilateral exercise codenamed Exercise Malapura.

The exercise, the 18th in its series, is being conducted in the Malacca Straits and includes both conventional naval warfare and a maritime security serial. A total of six ships from both navies are involved.

Colonel Joseph Leong, Commander First Flotilla and Commanding Officer of the RSN's 188 Squadron, is commanding the exercise task group, together with Commander Hisham Jaafar, Chief Staff Officer Exercise, HQ Fleet Operations Command, RMN, as the deputy commander.

The bilateral naval exercise is being hosted by the RSN this year, from 27 Nov to 9 Dec.

The opening ceremony was jointly officiated by the RSN Fleet Commander, Rear-Admiral Tan Kai Hoe and the RMN Fleet Operations Commander, Vice Admiral Dato' Mohd Amdan Kurish, at Changi Naval Base on 27 Nov.

Exercise Malapura provides a valuable opportunity for professional interaction between the RSN and RMN and helps to enhance the relationship between the two navies.
