Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean attended the opening ceremony of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) Exhibition 2009 at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre in Langkawi, Malaysia, on 1 Dec.

The participation of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) in this year's exhibition, which runs from 1 to 5 Dec, was at the invitation of the Malaysian government. The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) put up aerial and static displays using Apache attack helicopters and F-16 fighter aircraft, and a Republic of Singapore Navy frigate, RSS Formidable, was involved in a fleet review.

As part of his visit, Mr Teo also met Minister for Defence Dato' Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid bin Hamidi.

Mr Teo was accompanied by Minister in Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for Finance and Transport Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Desmond Kuek and Chief of Navy Rear-Admiral Chew Men Leong.

The SAF's participation at the biennial LIMA exhibitions since 2001 underscores the strong defence ties between Singapore and Malaysia. The armed forces of the two countries regularly engage in bilateral and multilateral exercises and professional exchanges together.
