CHIEF OF DEFENCE FORCE VISITS MARITIME SECURITY TASK FORCE
14 Oct 2015
To see the day-to-day operations of the Navy, Chief of Defence Force Major-General (MG) Perry Lim visited the Maritime Security Task Force (MSTF) in Changi Naval Base on 9 Oct.
During the visit, he was briefed by Deputy Commander MSTF Colonel Douglas Goh on the MSTF's role in keeping the country's waters safe. MG Lim also spoke to the International Liaison Officers at the Information Fusion Centre, who act as a point of contact for partner militaries and agencies in sharing information and coordinating maritime responses.
"Maritime security is very important to the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). To ensure that we keep our seas safe, we need to work with our partners to share information and best practices," said MG Lim.
"Your presence here is really a testimony of the cooperation we have with different nations and agencies."
As part of his visit, MG Lim also sailed out to sea to visit Fearless-class patrol vessel RSS Resilience, where he observed operations in the ship's Combat Information Centre, as well as on the bridge. He also witnessed an Accompanying Sea Security Team (ASSeT) conducting boarding operations.
ASSeT member 2nd Lieutenant (2LT) Kenneth Yang had briefed MG Lim earlier on the typical equipment they wear when performing ship-boarding operations, such as the 12-kg Flotation Body Armour vest and the MP5 gun.
Said the full-time national serviceman: "I'm very glad that MG Lim visited the MSTF today to see the Navy's operational readiness first-hand. This really shows the tri-Service nature of the SAF."
