Strengthening bilateral ties

As part of his visit to Exercise Thunder Warrior on
16 Jan, Defence Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen discussed various security-related issues with New Zealand Defence Minister Gerry Brownlee at the inaugural Singapore-New Zealand Defence Ministers' Meeting.

Following the meeting, the ministers issued a Joint Statement in which they endorsed the key principles of the 2009 Defence Cooperation Arrangement.

They agreed to explore further opportunities for the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and New Zealand Defence Force to cooperate, as well as for the SAF to carry out training in New Zealand. They also welcomed the establishment of Air Force Staff Talks, an Education and Training Working Group and an Operational Working Group, to facilitate discussions on new initiatives for cooperation.
