Put Harpoon surface missiles, Aster missiles, 76mm naval gun, low frequency sonar, Whitehead torpedoes and top-of-the-line operating systems together, and you will get a ship built to beat all others.

RSS Tenacious is the fourth of six Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) stealth frigates to be launched.

Equipped with state-of-the-art weapon and technology systems, as well as naval helicopters, the frigates are a versatile, multi-role force able to meet a variety of missions at sea.

RSS Tenacious was launched by Mrs Lalitha Jayakumar, wife of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Law, Professor S Jayakumar, at Singapore Technologies (ST) Marine s yard in Benoi on 15 Jul.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof Jayakumar said: The frigates are a prominent symbol of our commitment to protect and safeguard Singapore's vital sea lanes.

The frigates' sophisticated sonar and weapons systems are concurrently undergoing shore-based integration testing while the remaining ships are being built.

Once completed, the six frigates will enable the RSN to undertake a wide spectrum of missions and enable it carry out its mission of defending Singapore and its vital sea lines of communications more effectively.
