The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) will be participating in Exercise Cobra Gold 2007 in Pattaya, Thailand, from 8 to 18 May.

Other armed forces participating in the exercise are: the Royal Thai Armed Forces (RTARF), the United States Pacific Command (USPACOM), the Japanese Self-Defence Force (JSDF) and the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI).

Exercise Cobra Gold is a series of multilateral exercises focusing on peace support and non-combatant evacuation operations. Observers for this year's exercise comprise representatives from six countries: Australia, China, Germany, France, Korea and Philippines.

The SAF has sent observers to this exercise since 1993 and became a full participant in 2000.

The SAF's Chief Guards Office Brigadier-General (BG) Goh Kee Nguan will lead a 72-member SAF delegation to participate in the Command Post Exercise phase. The SAF delegation will undertake the role of staff planners for the Combined Joint Task Force, alongside their Thai, US, Japanese and Indonesian counterparts.

In addition, a 15-man SAF medical team will provide medical and dental services to the local population under the Medical Civil Assistance Programme (MEDCAP) of Cobra Gold 2007 with the Thai and US armed forces.
