About 10 personnel from the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) are taking part in Exercise Lion Zeal from 3 to 7 Jul.

First held in 1999, the annual bilateral exercise between the RSN and the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) is based at Devonport Naval Base in Auckland, New Zealand.

The first phase of the exercise is conducted on shore, where the two navies are involved in a one-day planning and tactical gaming routine.

The second phase, which is held at sea, will allow RSN personnel to view some of the RNZN's capabilities, including its SH-2G Super Seasprite helicopter.

Colonel (COL) Tan Wee Beng, the RSN's Commander Coastal Command, and Commodore David Anson, Maritime Component Commander of the RNZN, officiated the opening ceremony at Devonport Naval Base on 3 Jul.

Besides Exercise Lion Zeal, the armed forces of Singapore and New Zealand also interact regularly through participation in the Five Power Defence Arrangements and other multi-lateral exercises.
