S'PORE AND MALAYSIAN ARMIES HOLD BILATERAL INFANTRY EXERCISE
25 Jun 2010
Chief of Army Brigadier-General Chan Chun Sing and the Deputy Chief of Army of the Malaysian Armed Forces, Lieutenant-General Dato' Pahlawan Haji Zulkifli bin Haji Zainal Abidin, officiated the closing ceremony of the Singapore-Malaysia bilateral infantry exercise in Johor, Malaysia, on 25 Jun.
Codenamed Exercise Semangat Bersatu, this year's exercise was the 16th in the series of bilateral exercises conducted between the two armies. A total of 130 personnel from the 3rd Battalion, Singapore Guards, took part in the exercise. Their Malaysian counterparts hailed from the 1st Royal Ranger Regiment.
Held from 16 to 25 Jun, the 10-day exercise included a battalion full-troop exercise involving servicemen from both units and tactical discussions to enhance mutual understanding.
First conducted in 1989, Exercise Semangat Bersatu provides a good opportunity for both armies to strengthen their professional interactions. It also underscores the longstanding defence ties between Singapore and Malaysia.
