In an effort to get their Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) training syllabus recognised, the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) has entered into a strategic partnership with Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) to set up an accreditation framework for the syllabus.

The agreement was signed on 4 Feb at the Air Force School.

The WSH Act was put in place by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) in 2006 and the RSAF Safety Management System was modified to include basic WSH elements in August 2008. It was after this that HQ RSAF Air Force Inspectorate decided to explore a strategic collaboration with NP and MOM to get their WSH training syllabus recognised.

This tie-up would in turn provide safety officers and specialists with an opportunity to further their cognitive development through continuous learning.

The framework includes the attainment of WSH Professionals Workforce Skills Qualification that provides more career opportunities.

Accreditation to the Specialist Diploma in Workplace Safety and Health (SDWSH) is also provided as part of the agreement. In order to provide deeper coverage on WSH risk management systems, NP agreed to conduct two out of 11 core units of the SDWSH.

The partnership will ensure that all Safety Officers and Specialists receive the necessary certification and recognition for the skills and knowledge that they will acquire with the Service.

It is also part of the Singapore Armed Forces' greater goal of nurturing and developing its commanders professionally.
