The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) celebrated its tenth year of Chinook training in Texas, United States, on 22 Apr.

Formed in 1995 under the Peace Prairie programme, the detachment operates six Chinooks and has flown over 18,000 hours.

Besides participating in US Army exercises, the detachment also assisted in fighting fires and flood relief operations in the US.

The training in the US augments the RSAF's training in Singapore, as it provides air force personnel with realistic flying conditions, and allows them to hone their operational capabilities.

The long-standing Peace Prairie training detachment reflects the excellent defence co-operation between Singapore and the US.

Chief of Air Force, Major-General Lim Kim Choon, officiated at the anniversary celebrations with the Adjutant General of the Texas Army National Guard, Lieutenant-General Wayne D Marty.

Senior officers of the Texas Army National Guard and the community leaders of Dallas were also present at the parade and dinner.
