Members of the Government Parliamentary Committee - Defence and Foreign Affairs (GPC-DFA) visited the Army Fitness Centre (AFC) at Khatib Camp on 30 Apr.

During the visit, they were briefed on the importance and management of fitness in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), as well as the AFC's role in improving soldiers' overall fitness level.

Ms Indranee Rajah, Chairman of the GPC-DFA, and four other Members of Parliament (MPs), also took the Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT). They tried out the Electronic IPPT Scoring System (ELISS) and gave the thumbs-up to it.

"The ELISS makes the IPPT process a lot quicker," said Mr Christopher De Souza, MP for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC. "You don't need to have a Physical Training Instructor standing next to you to count your chin-ups!"

After interacting with NSmen and NS commanders who were taking the IPPT at the AFC, Ms Rajah noted that the facilities at the AFC were much improved.

NSmen who were taking their IPPT at the AFC concurred with the MPs' assessment.

"The equipment is new, well maintained, and really good stuff!" said Lieutenant (LTA) (NS) Victor Sun, who scored a Gold for his IPPT.

His friend, LTA (NS) Mohamad Yeazid, said the ELISS was a boon for busy NSmen.

"We NSmen have time constraints, so it's good to speed things up a little," he said.

The GPC-DFA's visit to the AFC was part of a series of regular visits that the Ministry of Defence organises to familiarise and update the committee members on the Singapore Armed Forces and its operations.
