Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen has visited the Republic of Singapore Navy's (RSN) Landing Ship Tank (LST) RSS Persistence.

The RSS Persistence and its crew of 180 are on a three-month deployment in the Northern Arabian Gulf as part of Singapore s contribution to the multinational effort in support of the United Nations-sanctioned reconstruction effort in Iraq.

Dr Ng observed the LST's operations in the gulf, which include patrols, boarding operations, security operations for the protection of waters around key oil terminals, and logistics support for the mission's vessels and helicopters.
