SAF TAKES PART IN EX COBRA GOLD

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is taking part in Exercise Cobra Gold, together with the Royal Thai Armed Forces, the United States Armed Forces, the Japanese Self Defence Force and the Indonesian National Defence Force.
The exercise is being held in Thailand from 15 to 25 May.
Cobra Gold 2006 is a series of multilateral exercises that focuses on peace support and non-combatant evacuation operations.
Observing the exercise are representatives from Australia, Bangladesh, China, France, Laos, Malaysia, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.
The 93-member SAF contingent, led by Commander 6th Division, Brigadier-General Ravinder Singh, is taking part in the combined command post exercise phase of Cobra Gold.
They are undertaking the role of staff planners for the multinational Combined Joint Task Force, alongside their counterparts from other armed forces.
The SAF will also be carrying out joint socio-civic activities with the Thai and US armed forces.
Exercise Cobra Gold enhances inter-operability among the participating armed forces in areas such as joint operational planning and execution processes, logistics, as well as command, control and co-ordination issues related to the conduct of multinational peace support and non-combatant evacuation operations.
The exercise also promotes mutual understanding and friendship among the participating armed forces.
