"Because of the weather conditions where temperatures can go below freezing point at night, the most critical requirements are heavy-duty tentages, blankets and warm clothing."

Coming from the Pakistan High Commissioner, Mr Sajjad Ashraf, these words give a clearer picture of the ground conditions at the quake-stricken areas in Pakistan.

Singapore is one of the first countries to send relief supplies.

"Before many others responded, the Singapore planes had took off for Pakistan," said Mr Sajjad.

The High Commissioner was speaking to the media at Paya Lebar Airbase on 18 Oct where he viewed the loading of relief supplies onto two Republic of Singapore Air Force C-130 transport planes.

Expressing his gratitude, Mr Sajjad said: "Singapore s efforts have been very overwhelming and outstanding. It has touched my heart and I'm sure it has touched many others in Pakistan."

The relief supplies consist of tentages, blankets, ground sheets, medical supplies and pre-packed food items.
