S'PORE, MALAYSIAN NAVIES CONDUCT BILATERAL MARITIME EXERCISE

The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) are conducting Exercise Malapura from 22 Feb to 4 Mar.

The RSN is hosting the 11-day exercise which will see both navies conducting drills in conventional naval warfare and maritime security. A total of six ships from the two countries are participating in this exercise to be carried out at the Changi Naval Base and in the Malacca Strait.

This year's exercise is the 20th in the series of bilateral naval exercises held since 1984. The RSN and RMN participate regularly in a range activities including professional exchanges and courses, as well as multilateral engagements such the Five Power Defence Arrangements that also include Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Both navies have also been actively involved in enhancing maritime security through the Malacca Strait Patrols. This marks the commitment of both countries to strengthening mutual understanding and professional ties between personnel of both navies.
