RSAF SIGNS PACT WITH UNISIM AND US UNIVERSITY
27 May 2011
In developing its personnel both professionally and academically, the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) has teamed up with the SIM University (UniSIM) and the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) to offer credit exemptions for selected bachelor degree courses.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by Chief of Air Force Major-General (MG) Ng Chee Meng, UniSIM President Professor Cheong Hee Kiat and ERAU Vice-President and Chief Academic Officer Dr John Watret at the Air Force Training Command (AFTC) on 25 May.
MG Ng said: "The continuing education partnership with UniSIM and Embry-Riddle will serve as a platform for our people to continuously upgrade themselves, and match the RSAF's organisational goals to their personal ambitions."
ERAU is a world-renowned aviation and aerospace university based in the United States and the largest accredited aviation-oriented university in the world.
Through the agreement, RSAF personnel will be granted the exemptions based on two key considerations. First, they must have attended relevant training courses at the AFTC, such as the Basic Wings Course and the Licensed Aircraft Engineer. Second, they must be pursuing one of these three programmes: UniSIM-ERAU's Bachelor of Science in Aviation Maintenance, UniSIM-ERAU's Bachelor of Science in Aviation Business Administration and UniSIM's Bachelor of Engineering in Aerospace Systems.
RSAF personnel in the UniSIM-ERAU programmes will graduate with dual degrees, one from each of the universities.
Commenting on the pact, Prof Cheong said: "This MOU with RSAF is an extension, and signifies the success, of our existing partnership with the SAF. We are pleased to bring our partnership with ERAU to our men and women in the RSAF. I am confident this collaboration will help nurture a core pool of leadership talents and professionals and further increase the competencies of our modern air force."
Dr Watret added: "We are very happy to be taking this important step to expand aviation and aerospace opportunities to RSAF personnel just as we do for thousands of US military personnel."
