Answering the call to defend Singapore

The Weapon Presentation Ceremony represents a powerful moment when recruits are entrusted with their rifle and begin carrying the weight of the nation’s defence.

It’s one of the core memories of being a recruit in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).

Days into their journey as soldiers, recruits are whisked away from their company lines to attend an important occasion – the Weapon Presentation Ceremony.

Receiving their rifle symbolises more than learning to bear arms; it signifies the resolve to safeguard Singapore and all those who call it home.

We capture some of the moments as the latest batch of recruits take up the responsibility of defending our nation.

Usually held either in the early morning or at night, the Weapon Presentation Ceremony marks a significant milestone for recruits.

With sleeves folded up smartly and jockey caps on, rows of recruits from Basic Military Training Centre (BMTC) School 3's Pegasus Company stand at attention as they await their turn to receive their weapons.

"With this weapon, I will defend my country, Sir!" When presented with their rifles, the recruits display their commitment to the nation's defence by responding in a strong voice and snatching over the rifle from their commanders with a firm grasp.

With rays from the morning sun cast against their determined faces, the recruits recite the Weapon Creed and pledge to take good care of their rifles.

The Weapon Presentation Ceremony is also a proud moment for the recruits’ commanders, who have been patiently guiding the recruits since their enlistment.
