KC-135 CREW FLY TO THE GULF

A Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) KC-135 tanker aircraft detachment set off for the Gulf from Changi Air Base on 25 Apr.
Chief of Defence Force Major-General (MG) Desmond Kuek was on hand to see the crew off. Also present was Chief of Air Force Brigadier-General (BG) Ng Chee Khern.
This marks Singapore's latest contribution in support of the multinational reconstruction efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
During its three-month deployment, the KC-135 detachment will support the multinational forces with air-to-air refuelling.
Heading the team is Major Zakir Hamid, who joins the mission as a detachment commander for the first time.
"Given that this is our fourth time, and that we've done very well previously, I think the challenge is to maintain that good record in attaining mission success and to do it safely," said the Deputy Commanding Officer of 112 Squadron.
Last year's detachment reported a 100 per cent success rate and full aircraft serviceability.
Based on past experiences, team members have taken measures to prepare themselves for the fickle climate and other environmental drawbacks.
"We are there representing not only the Air Force but also our country, and we're building defence relations with the multinational forces," said pilot Lieutenant Victor Ong, who is taking part in this deployment for the second time.
"I'm thrilled to be contributing to this mission."
