The Commander-in-Chief of the Vietnam People's Navy (VPN), Vice-Admiral (VADM) Nguyen Van Hien, called on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean at the Ministry of Defence on 30 Jul. VADM Hien also called on Chief of Navy Rear-Admiral (RADM) Chew Men Leong and visited the Changi Command and Control Centre in Changi Naval Base as part of his introductory visit to Singapore from 29 Jul to 1 Aug.

RADM Chew and VADM Hien signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a Naval Working Group between the Republic of Singapore Navy and the VPN. The pact will further boost cooperation between the two navies in areas such as personnel education and training, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, as well as search and rescue operations.

VADM Hien's visit reinforces the warm bilateral defence ties between Singapore and Vietnam. The Naval Working Group pact, which follows the signing of a Defence Cooperation Agreement in September last year, is another milestone in the growing bilateral defence relations between both countries.
