TOP MILITARY AWARD FOR CHAIRMAN, US JOINT CHIEFS OF STAFF

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States, Admiral (ADM) Michael G. Mullen, was conferred Singapore's highest military award, the Distinguished Service Order (Military), by President S. R. Nathan.
ADM Mullen was awarded the medal in recognition of his significant contributions toward enhancing the excellent ties between the United States Armed Forces (USAF) and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
Under his leadership, both armed forces have embarked on new areas of co-operation, such as counter-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, counter-terrorism and maritime security.
The USAF and the SAF also conduct an extensive range of military interactions, which have strengthened mutual understanding and cooperation.
ADM Mullen is in Singapore to attend the Shangri-La Dialogue.
