Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean conferred the Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Tentera) [or Meritorious Service Medal (Military)] to Admiral (ADM) Khamthorn Pumhiran, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy (RTN), at an investiture held at the Ministry of Defence on 17 Aug.

This prestigious military award was presented in recognition of ADM Khamthorn's significant role in enhancing the excellent ties between the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and the RTN. Under his leadership, the long-standing friendship and close cooperation between the two navies have grown in strength.

Both navies interact regularly through bilateral exercises such as Exercise Sing-Siam and the Western Pacific Naval Symposium, as well as courses, port calls and other professional exchanges. They also work closely together in the Malacca Straits Patrols to enhance region maritime security.

As part of his three-day visit to Singapore from 16 to 18 Aug, ADM Khamthorn called on DPM Teo, Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Neo Kian Hong and Chief of Navy Rear-Admiral Chew Men Leong.
