Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean and the Minister of National Defence Kim Tae-Young of the Republic of Korea (ROK) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on defence cooperation at the Ministry of Defence on 2 Dec.

The MOU, the first bilateral defence agreement between the two countries to be signed at the ministerial level, aims to strengthen defence relations. It formalised existing defence interactions such as policy dialogues and exchanges of visits by defence officials from both Singapore and the ROK.

The signing reflected the strong defence relations between Singapore and the ROK. It also marked the countries' commitment to strengthening defence cooperation for mutual benefit.

With the MOU in effect, both countries will be able to broaden their defence cooperation to include areas like humanitarian aid and military medicine.

Before the signing ceremony, Mr Kim called on Mr Teo and they discussed regional security developments and bilateral defence cooperation. During his visit to Singapore from 1 to 3 Dec, Mr Kim will also visit the Infantry Gunnery Tactical Simulator at Pasir Laba Camp.
