To get a first-hand feel of the Republic of Singapore Air Force's (RSAF's) capabilities, Second Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing took a flight on an F-15SG fighter aircraft across Singapore skies on 11 Jul.

Seated behind the pilot, Mr Chan saw the various capabilities of the multi-role fighter during the 45-minute flight. He also observed how a KC-135 Stratotanker performed a mid-air refuelling on the F-15SG.

The familiarisation flight was part of Mr Chan's visit to the Air Combat Command (ACC). It was hosted by the 149 Squadron which operates the F-15SG, the latest range of fighter aircraft in the RSAF.

The ACC is responsible for developing fighter and transport forces for a range of air combat operations.

Speaking to cyberpioneer after the flight, Mr Chan said the experience allowed him to see in action the combat systems and capabilities that the RSAF had developed.

He said: "We have progressed a long way from where we started off, and I am sure the entire crew in the Air Combat Command will continue to make sure that we maintain that sharp edge.

"I am highly impressed with the kind of capabilities they have brought on stream in the short time that they had."

Prior to take-off, Commander ACC Brigadier General (BG) Lim Tuang Liang and other senior commanders briefed Mr Chan on the roles and capabilities of the ACC.

BG Lim said the visit and flight demonstrated to Mr Chan how the RSAF was able to respond quickly to any air threats to Singapore.

"It gave him the reassurance that the Air Force is not only capable, but also ready to defend our skies."
