SAF HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE TEAM RETURNS FROM THAILAND
01 Jun 2006
The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) humanitarian assistance team deployed to assist the Thai locals in flood relief operations returned to Singapore on 31 May, after the flood situation had stabilised in Northern Thailand.
Since 26 May, they had been in Phitsanulok, Thailand to assist the Royal Thai Armed Forces (RTAF) in various missions like delivering humanitarian aid to remote villages and providing medical aid to the villagers affected by the recent flash floods.
The humanitarian assistance team, led by mission commander Lieutenant-Colonel (LTC) Quek Chew Teck, landed at Paya Lebar Air Base in a C-130 aircraft. They were greeted by senior SAF officers, including Chief of Staff (Air Staff) Brigadier-General Charles Sih.
"Overall, I think the missions were conducted very successfully and safely," said LTC Quek.
Other SAF personnel involved in the flood relief operations, together with the three SAF Chinooks that assisted in the operations, have resumed their training in Central Thailand.
