S'PORE AND INDONESIAN NAVIES CONDUCT ANNUAL MINE-COUNTERMEASURE EXERCISE
06 Jul 2009
The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) are conducting their annual mine-countermeasure (MCM) exercise, code-named Joint MINEX, from 29 Jun to 7 July.
The two navies will conduct joint MCM operations against simulated mine threats off the eastern coast of Bintan, Indonesia, and in the Singapore Strait.
In addition to the two RSN mine-countermeasure vessels (MCMVs), RSS Kallang and RSS Punggol, one TNI-AL MCMV, KRI Pulau Rengat; and a TNI-AL minesweeper, KRI Pulau Rangsang, are also participating in the exercise.
Former Commander Maritime Security Task Force, RSN, Rear-Admiral Tan Wee Beng, and TNI-AL's Commander Western Fleet Sea Security Group, TNI-AL, First-Admiral Sugeng Darmawan, officiated at the exercise's opening ceremony held in Batam on 29 Jun.
This year's exercise, the 12th in the Joint MINEX series, aims to strengthen the interoperability and professionalism of the RSN and TNI-AL mine-countermeasure forces.
