The People's Liberation Army's Deputy Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant-General (LG) Ma Xiaotian, called on Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean at the Ministry of Defence on 6 Mar.

During the course of his three-day visit, LG Ma chaired the second Singapore-China Defence Policy Dialogue together with Permanent Secretary (Defence) Chiang Chie Foo.

At the dialogue, both leaders discussed issues of mutual interest. This included regional, maritime and energy security matters as well as bilateral defence exchanges.

The Singapore-China Defence Policy Dialogue was inaugurated in January 2008 and was institutionalised with the signing of the Agreement on Defence Exchanges and Security Cooperation by both countries in the same month.

LG Ma's visit, which underscored the growing defence ties between Singapore and China, also included visits to Tuas Naval Base, 2nd People's Defence Force and the Republic of Singapore Air Force's 203 Squadron.
