NEW MAN AT THE HELM OF 1ST BATTALION, MILITARY INTELLIGENCE
16 Apr 2007
Major (MAJ) Seet Uei Lim has taken over as Commanding Officer of 1st Battalion, Military Intelligence (1 MI Bn).
Though rain threatened to disrupt the change of command parade, it did not deter the men of 1 MI Bn from bidding farewell to their outgoing Commanding Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel (LTC) Paul Chew.
LTC Chew, who had been with the battalion for slightly over a year, described this period as a "most memorable time", as the battalion had undertaken many challenging missions.
As an intelligence battalion supporting peacetime security operations in key events like the National Day Parade, the unit has to be on high alert constantly.
When they are not deployed for key events, LTC Chew and his battalion train locally as well as participate in overseas exercises.
"I am going to miss everyone here," said LTC Chew.
"But I am also happy because my successor is very capable and I am confident he will be able to do a good job."
In a tribute to his predecessor, MAJ Seet said the battalion had been well trained and operationally tested under the leadership of LTC Chew.
"I am honoured to be given this chance to take over the command," said MAJ Seet.
He said his immediate focus would be to understand the personnel of the battalion - by talking to them individually and as a group. His aim is to develop his people to a point that even when he is not around, things "will be done beyond expectations".
"They are the most important and valuable asset that we have, after all," said MAJ Seet.
