Colonel (COL) Mervyn Tan took over as Commander of Air Defence and Operations Command (ADOC) from Brigadier-General (BG) Kwek Kok Kwong, at a change of command parade held at Chong Pang Camp on 26 Jun and witnessed by Chief of Air Force Major-General (MG) Ng Chee Meng.

In his speech, BG Kwek cited the collapse of Lehman Brothers as a reminder that "no organisation is too big to fail and success cannot be taken for granted. Likewise, in ADOC, we shoulder the huge responsibility of defending our skies - a responsibility that is too critical to fail, and where success of yesteryear is not a guarantee of success tomorrow".

He also hailed the efforts of ADOC personnel and thanked them for their unflinching support.

Expressing confidence in COL Tan's leadership, BG Kwek said: "As Deputy Commander for almost one year, Mervyn has shown himself to be an exemplary leader, more than capable of bringing the Command to greater heights."

COL Tan joined the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) on 18 Mar 1991 and was awarded the SAF Overseas Training Award (Graduating) in 1992.

In his 21 years with the RSAF, COL Tan has held various staff and command appointments, including Commanding Officer 121 Squadron, Head Air Plans Department, and more recently Deputy Commander ADOC.

COL Tan is an operational pilot who has participated in numerous overseas exercises in countries such as Australia, Indonesia and Thailand. For his contributions to the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), he was awarded the Public Administration Medal - Silver (Military) in 2010.
