Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean is in the Republic of Korea for an official visit from 22 to 26 Sep. His meeting with Minister of National Defence Lee Sang-Hee in Seoul marks the first visit by a Singapore defence minister to the Republic of Korea since 1992.

Both ministers reaffirmed the warm and friendly bilateral defence relationship, underpinned by common perspectives on regional security and growing interactions between their armed forces.

During their meeting, they exchanged views on the regional security situation and proposed means of enhancing their bilateral defence relationship. They also agreed to discuss the signing of a defence cooperation agreement and the establishment of joint air force talks.

While in the Republic of Korea, Mr Teo visited the Kwangju Airbase, the Naval Operations Command in Busan, and Punmunjom.

Mr Teo's visit underscores the warm and friendly defence relationship between Singapore and the Republic of Korea.

Both nations' armed forces interact regularly through professional dialogues, courses and seminars, as well as in multilateral exercises and activities.
