MEDAL FOR FORMER CHIEF OF US PACIFIC COMMAND

Minister for Defence, Mr Teo Chee Hean, conferred Singapore's prestigious military award, the Meritorious Service Medal (Military), to the former Commander of United States Pacific Command, Admiral Retired (Retd) Thomas Boulton Fargo, on 24 Aug.
This award recognises Admiral (Retd) Fargo for his outstanding role in building closer ties between the US Pacific Command and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
Admiral (Retd) Fargo was Commander of the United States Pacific Command from May 2002 to February 2005.
Under his leadership, co-operation between the US Pacific Command and the SAF increased substantially, and the exercises between the two sides also expanded in scope and complexity to address current security threats.
Admiral (Retd) Fargo is in Singapore from 21 to 24 Aug.
Before the investiture at the Ministry of Defence, Admiral (Retd) Fargo called on Mr Teo and Chief of Defence Force, Lieutenant-General Ng Yat Chung.
