Indonesian Vice-President-elect Dr Boediono visited the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) medical team in Pariaman, Indonesia, on 6 Oct.

During his visit to the SAF medical facility and its Accident and Emergency (A&E) clinic located next to Pariaman Public Hospital, Dr Boediono was briefed on the capabilities of the medical facility, as well as the various types of medical treatment provided to the patients. He also met some members of the medical team.

Earlier in the day, Indonesian Trade Minister Dr Mari Pangestu, also visited the SAF medical team and witnessed the team in action as she toured the facility.

Both visitors expressed their appreciation to the medical team for the assistance provided to the victims of the 30 Sep earthquake.

"Singapore is always among the first to respond to Indonesia in times of need," said Dr Boediono.

Head of the SAF medical team Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) (Dr) Mohamad Rosman Bin Othman told cyberpioneer that the SAF's mission in Pariaman is to augment the local hospital in managing the increasing number of casualties in the aftermath of the earthquake.

With a constant flow of patients to the SAF medical facility throughout the day, the team has attended to 214 A&E cases, and performed 18 surgeries, since it opened its doors to receive patients on 4 Oct.
