INDONESIAN NAVY CHIEF GETS MILITARY AWARD

The Indonesian Navy's Chief of Staff, Admiral (ADM) Slamet Soebijanto, was conferred the prestigious Meritorious Service Medal (Military) by Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean at the Ministry of Defence on 31 Aug.
ADM Soebijanto was awarded the medal for his outstanding efforts in strengthening ties between the Indonesian Navy and the Republic of Singapore Navy.
Under ADM Soebijanto's leadership, both navies have continued to cooperate and interact closely through a broad range of events, including professional exchanges and bilateral exercises such as Exercise Eagle.
ADM Soebijanto also played a key role in the successful launch in May 2005 of Project SURPIC, a common sea surveillance system that lets both navies share a real-time situation picture of the Singapore Straits.
While in Singapore, ADM Soebijanto called on Mr Teo, Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Ng Yat Chung and Chief of Navy Rear-Admiral Ronnie Tay.
He also visited Changi Naval Base, and attended the closing ceremony of Exercise Eagle.
