The Inspector-General of the French Armed Forces for Armament, Ing nieur G n ral de Classe Exceptionnelle de l'Armement (IGCEA) Jean-Paul Pani was conferred the Singapore Defence Technology Distinguished Fellowship by Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean at the Ministry of Defence on 19 Mar.

This was in recognition of IGCEA Pani 's efforts in strengthening the defence technology cooperation between France and Singapore.

As Director of the Directorate for International Development in D l gation G n rale pour l'Armement (DGA) from February 2003 to November 2006, IGCEA Pani advocated defence technology cooperation between France and Singapore. He facilitated linkages in new research areas and promoted the establishment of research and development roadmaps.

IGCEA Pani contributed significantly to the success of the Republic of Singapore Navy's frigate programme by garnering DGA support for the programme, as the French co-chair of the bilateral executive committee.

Speaking to cyberpioneer after the conferment ceremony, IGCEA Pani said: "I admire how DSTA (Defence Science & Technology Agency) and the Singapore Navy were able to develop the Combat Management System (for command and control of sensor and weapons systems on board the frigate) in good time. I understand that the frigates have proven to be effective in a recent exercise by your navy. It proves not only that the ships were useful, but also that your servicemen were well trained."

He added: "Your armed forces has a very professional way of working. I say this not based on impressions, but on the success you have achieved. This is clear in your results and effectiveness."
