FPDA NATIONS HOLD COMBINED EXERCISE

The armed forces of Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and the United Kingdom are conducting a combined exercise from 5 to 28 Sep.
Exercise Bersama Lima will involve air, maritime and land forces from the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA) countries.
A total of 26 ships, 74 aircraft and a submarine have been deployed for the exercise. Also taking part are supporting elements like diving, air defence and communications support teams.
During the exercise, participants will conduct combined joint operations in a multi-threat scenario. They will also practise capacity building against non-conventional threats.
Shore-based personnel will undertake operational level planning and execution of the exercise at the Exercise Headquarters situated at Butterworth Airbase in Malaysia. Other exercise participants will conduct force integration training and live exercises within Malaysia and Singapore and at the South China Sea.
Hosted by Malaysia, Exercise Bersama Lima aims to enhance the FPDA forces interoperability, operational capability and mutual co-operation.
It also aims to strengthen the relationship among the five armed forces.
