DR NG VISITS INDONESIA FOR 1ST TIME AS DEFENCE MINISTER

Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen called on Indonesian Minister for Defence Dr Purnomo Yusgiantoro at the Indonesian Ministry of Defence on 26 Jul. This was part of Dr Ng's introductory visit to Indonesia, since taking over as defence minister in May.
Dr Ng also visited the Indonesian National Resilience Institute (LEMHANNAS), where he was hosted by LEMHANNAS Governor Budi Soepandji. After being briefed on the activities and programmes conducted at the institute, Dr Ng took the opportunity to interact with senior military officials who were studying there. Later in the day, he also visited the Indonesian Peace and Security Centre.
As part of his three-day official visit to Indonesia, Dr Ng will also be calling on Indonesian Vice-President Dr Boediono and Coordinating Minister for Legal, Political and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto.
Dr Ng's visit underscores the warm and friendly ties between the defence ministries of Singapore and Indonesia. The forces of both countries engage in regular professional exchanges and bilateral exercises such as Exercise Eagle and Exercise Safkar Indopura.
