Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean is in India for an official visit. While in the country, he called on Indian Defence Minister A K Antony in New Delhi, where both parties reaffirmed the warm defence relations between Singapore and India, and discussed regional security developments. Mr Teo also called on Indian Home Minister P. Chidambaram during his visit.

Mr Teo first visited India in 2003 where he signed the Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA). Since then, he has also visited India in 2005 and 2007. The DCA provides for cooperation in a wide range of activities between the two countries.

Bilateral interactions between the Singapore Armed Forces and Indian Armed Forces have since grown in scope and depth to include joint exercises, service-level staff talks and cross-attendance of courses. The two defence establishments also engage in regular policy dialogues.

Apart from his official calls, Mr Teo will also attend the 19th Commonwealth Games as President of the Singapore National Olympic Council. The 19th Commonwealth Games are being held from 3 to 14 Oct.
