10 Jun 2005
It promises to be an extravaganza not to be missed.
Free admission, unique experiences and wholesome fun for people of all ages, the Celebrate Singapore Festival will be held at the Marina City Park with a multitude of fun activities from 6 to 14 Aug.
The festival is part of the celebrations at Carnival@Marina, which includes the Total Defence Showcase of dynamic shows, static displays and thematic rides (see story below).
Visitors to the Celebrate Singapore Festival can enjoy a range of fun-filled activities from morning till night, as the carnival opens from 10am to 11pm daily.
Highlights include:
- Family Village
'Robot World' will be a huge draw, featuring 20 to 30 robots which will entertain and amuse audiences with their antics. Singapore is 'Robot World's' third stop as the exhibition has only been previously held in Japan and China.
"Some can play the organ, dance, dispense drinks or even transform, for example, from an airplane to a robot," said Fahmy Baobid, Events Manager of Jate Events. "Some of the robots are larger than life! Bring your cameras along for a unique picture moment with the amazing robots!".
Also, look out for buskers, thrilling rides, game stalls, magician and clown performances.
- Food Village
A collection of some of Singapore's best local dishes and international cuisine will be available here. "Up to 40 Signature Singapore dishes of Chinese, Malay, Indian and Western food are available. International favourites like Japanese sushi, Turkish kebab and Taiwan snacks will also entice visitors," said Dennis Chew, Merchandise Manager of Jate Events.
- Global Village
About 20 countries will showcase their culture, music, festivals, food and signature items. This reflects the "cosmopolitan country that Singapore is", commented Ms Lynette Pang, Assistant Director of Entertainment, Singapore Tourism Board.
- Sports Village
Fancy extreme sports? Get an adrenaline rush from skateboarding, biking and adventure sports like rapelling, flying fox and rock-climbing. Local sports celebrities will grace these events.
- Arts Village
Supported by the National Arts Council, this village will showcase both performing and visual arts events and activities every day.
- Chill-Out-By-The-Bay
Al-fresco bars will be set up along the perimeter of the Marina Park next to the sea, creating a relaxed ambience for dining and definitely a romantic place to view the fireworks.
- Countdown Party
The Prime Minister will be the guest of honour at this big party on 8 Aug. The Singapore Chinese Orchestra and fireworks will entertain party-goers.
- Concert by the Bay
Over 40 popular international and local artistes will be invited to perform at this series of concerts.
