A simple ceremony held on 28 Oct marked the close of Ayer Rajah Camp, as preparations to return the land on which the camp sits to the State neared completion. The camp's three tenants: Headquarters Maintenance and Engineering Support (HQ MES), Ordnance Engineering Training Institute (OETI) and 1st Army Maintenance Base (1 AMB) have been relocated to Kranji Camp 3.

At the ceremony, Chief Maintenance and Engineering Officer Military Expert (ME) 7 Hung Ching Pien reminded the tenants of the rich heritage of their camp, which used to be a base for the British Engineers after the Japanese occupation.

He said: "Ayer Rajah Camp is half British. It started with humble beginnings, modernised over the years with many firsts and reorganised many times to meet the changing demands of our Army. The closing of this camp today also marks another major milestone in MES' history.

"As MES embarks on a new journey and establishes roots in Kranji Camp, we must maintain the proud tradition of continuously adding value to our Army, and grooming the next generation of military engineers."

Gloucester Camp, which is situated next to Ayer Rajah Camp and which housed the Headquarters Supply and Transport, also held a closing ceremony on the same day. The unit has been relocated to Kranji Camp 3 too as the land will also be returned to the State this year.
