AUSTRALIAN GOVERNOR-GENERAL VISITS HEADQUARTERS ARMY MEDICAL SERVICES
18 Nov 2008
The Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce, visited the Singapore Armed Forces' (SAF) Headquarters Army Medical Services (HQ AMS) at Nee Soon Camp on 18 Nov.
Accompanying her on the visit were Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean and Chief of Army Major-General Neo Kian Hong.
Governor-General Bryce was also briefed on the bilateral defence relationship between Singapore and Australia, and on Singapore's contributions to the multinational reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan.
The briefing covered the deployment of a 20-man SAF medical team to the field hospital at Tarin Kowt, Oruzgan, in support of Australian and Dutch forces.
A tour of the SAF Medical Corps Heritage Centre concluded Governor-General Bryce's visit to HQ AMS.
Governor-General Bryce's visit to the SAF underscores the friendly and strong defence relationship Singapore shares with Australia.
The SAF conducts regular bilateral and multilateral training exercises with the Australian Defence Force (ADF), and is appreciative of the support given by the Australian Government, the ADF and the local communities, to its training in Australia.
In addition, both armed forces also engage in visits, professional exchanges and military courses.
Governor-General Bryce is in Singapore on a state visit from 16 to 18 Nov.
