AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE CHIEF GETS TOP MILITARY AWARD

Australia's Chief of the Defence Force Air Chief Marshal (ACM) Allan Grant Houston was conferred Singapore's top military award by President S R Nathan at the Istana on 24 Aug.
The Distinguished Service Order (Military) was presented to ACM Houston in recognition of his significant contributions towards strengthening defence ties between the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
ACM Houston has been instrumental in promoting greater cooperation between both armed forces, and his strong personal support has contributed significantly to enhancing the operational readiness of the SAF.
Under his leadership, professional interactions between the SAF and the ADF have increased in scope and depth. Both armed forces conduct regular bilateral and multilateral activities, including exercises, interactions under the Five Power Defence Arrangements, and other professional exchange programmes.
These engagements have strengthened and enhanced mutual understanding and camaraderie between the officers and men of both armed forces.
Among the guests present at the investiture were Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean, and senior defence officials from both countries.
