WHO'S YOUR BUDDY?

For better or for worse, these brothers-in-arms were the ones who make your National Service memorable – remember to jio your kakis out for a kopi session this International Friendship Day!
//STORY SHERLYN QUEK / ILLUSTRATIONS BRYAN LOO

The "Makan Guru"

This true-blue Singaporean foodie friend is armed with an insatiable appetite (and a snack somewhere in his field pack), and knows all the best food haunts round camp (Ed note: If you dunno then must read our Makan Around Camp series lah!)

Your bond has continued to grow over late-night supper runs and your ever-expanding waistlines!

The "Insurance Kaki"

There's always a smooth-talker who finds a way to bring up financial planning – whether it's during group meet-ups outside of camp or break time during ICT.

"Bro, need insurance?" "Chill and drink your kopi (coffee) lah bro!"

The "Blur Sotong"

This buddy always never know where to go, what to do, what's going on... Sabo (cause trouble) himself never mind, don't sabo the rest of the platoon lah! His misadventures make for plenty of comic relief – just as long as you don't get tekan (punish) along with him!

The "Siao On Soldier"

This dude has stayed super fit and gung-ho even after ORD. He always has a motivational slogan ready and is the first to complete every task, machiam (similar to) like some action movie star. You respect his enthusiasm, but sometimes you just want to chill, bro!
