US COMMANDER RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS MILITARY AWARD
09 Nov 2007
Admiral William Fallon, Commander of the United States Central Command, was conferred the Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Tentera), or Meritorious Service Medal (Military), by Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean on 9 Nov.
The medal was awarded to Admiral Fallon, who was Commander of the United States Pacific Command from February 2005 to March this year, in recognition of his significant contributions in enhancing and expanding the excellent ties between the United States Pacific Command and the Singapore Armed Forces.
Professional co-operation between the two forces grew markedly under Admiral Fallon s leadership, with new interactions in the areas of maritime security, peacekeeping, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
Expanded visits and professional exchanges, as well as regular dialogue and interaction at the Pacific Command-Singapore Armed Forces Annual Staff Talks and other meetings have all enhanced the relationship between both forces.
As part of his visit, Admiral Fallon also called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Desmond Kuek.
