Hers is the bubbly voice you hear during the evening drive time on Power 98FM. The station's newest face seems like the effortless extrovert at first glance.
But Jacqueline Su-Yin Thibodeaux says her weekends are spent at home, unwinding and (gasp!) doing work. Since joining Power 98FM in June, she has found herself stepping into the office earlier. "We are a close bunch here and I like to come in early."
Some people seem to think that all radio DJs have to do is talk and play songs. It's not that easy. Her days are filled with show-prep, meetings and event hosting. "It's hectic but I like being busy!"
With an American father and a Singaporean mother, it is easy to stereotype her as another pampered expatriate kid. But she's lived in Singapore since she was eight and peppers her speech with very Singaporean "lahs" and "lohs".
She remembers being a busy kid with weekdays spent at extra classes and weekends filled with time at bowling, karate and tap-dancing clubs. She met some of her closest friends at bowling, an activity she still does today. "I've known them forever. Hanging out with them keeps me sane," said Jacqueline.
Grounded, pretty and has a good voice. Sometimes, life just isn't fair.
"Put me in a pair of tap-dancing shoes and I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get back into the groove!"
