GUARDIAN OF THE SKIES

David Goh, 6, spent a day at Sembawang Air Base where his father, Major (MAJ) Jerome Goh showed him around his workplace at 206 Squadron (SQN).
My papa is MAJ Jerome Goh and he is an Air Warfare Officer (C3) at 206 SQN. That is the Control Squadron in Sembawang Air Base. I visited his office and it was really cool!
Looking out from the control tower: helicopters everywhere!

I was very excited because I was going to see what my papa does at work, and helicopters!
My papa took me to the control tower. It was really high above the ground and I could see all around the air base. There were so many helicopters! My papa told me about the different types of helicopters and my favourite was the small dark green one (the Apache) because it had an awesome gun.
My papa told me what he did to control the helicopters flying from the air base. His job is to ensure that the helicopters move around safely on the ground and in the air.
Next, my papa showed me some of the equipment he uses in the control tower. I got to wear the headset that my papa uses to talk to the pilots. It had earpieces that covered my ears and a microphone. I could hear the pilots and controllers talking, and it all sounded really busy and important.

Lastly, I got to move the magnetic pins on the pin board used by the tower controllers. The pins are used to mark the positions of the different helicopters and vehicles around the airfield. It helps the tower controllers to track all their activities.
I am really happy to have seen what my papa does at work. I also got to meet many of papa's friends who were all very friendly and patient. I am proud that my papa and his friends work hard to protect our skies and keep us safe!
