About 78 grassroots leaders from 30 constituencies visited Tengah Air Base on 22 Apr to familiarise themselves with the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) and its operations.

The visit was hosted by Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Defence and the Environment and Water Resources, Associate Professor (Assoc Prof) Koo Tsai Kee.

The grassroots leaders were briefed on the RSAF's mission, organisational structure and its role in the defence of Singapore.

Now, we know how the air force works, and what are the various components of the air force, said Mr Joseph Foo, Chairman of the Citizens Consultative Committee (Pioneer), West Coast GRC.

The grassroots leaders also toured a static display of various aircraft, like the F-16 fighter jets and E2C Hawkeye early warning aircraft.

It was a meaningful visit for the grassroots leaders and many of them were impressed by what they saw.

This is a very educational tour, said Madam Noormala binte Ramli, Secretary of Marsiling Zone 9 RC, Sembawang GRC. We were introduced to the roles and functions of this air base.

The Ministry of Defence organises such visits periodically to familiarise grassroots leaders with the Singapore Armed Forces and its operations.
