The Army Encounter, a showcase of the Army's formations as well as games and celebrity performances is an annual event organised by the Army Recruitment Centre to create career awareness.

According to Head of Army Recruitment, Major (MAJ) Jasper Tan, the idea behind Army Encounter is to bring the Army to its different interest groups, in this case, students who are about to enlist for National Service.

"This is not a recruitment-centric event," said MAJ Tan. "We want to provide information on the different vocations in the Army to those who are going to enlist into National Service".

This year, the Army Encounter was held at Singapore Polytechnic on 14 and 15 Dec.

It featured a number of activities like a LAN-gaming competition and a paintball tournament.

There were also static displays by various Formations of the Army.

Even though it was their examination period, the students took time to visit the displays.

For Anthony Chua, the Army Encounter was an informative experience.

"It's good to get some exposure and know what the Army is about," said the information communication technology student.

While Anthony is not considering a military career, his friend Muhammad Yusoff bin Kassim is.

The building property management student is considering a career with the Army, in particular, with Armour Formation.

"They provided a lot of information that I wanted to know," said Yusoff.

The real thing: Students getting some hands-on with military weapons.
The Signals' Bronco was just one of the many SAF vehicles on display at Singapore Polytechnic.
