Being an ACCORD (Advisory Council on Community Relations in Defence) member is more than just going for visits to Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) camps and taking rides in military vehicles, ships and planes.

ACCORD members play an important role in the country's defence, and for Dr Lee Cher Leng, an associate professor from the National University of Singapore, the past three years have been a very rewarding experience.

It has been an eye-opener, it has shown me what the Government has been doing to build up the country s defence, she said.

Being an ACCORD member, you get to see more and hence, are thankful to have an armed forces which is ready. I am reassured that we are not being complacent, she added.

Dr Lee is among eight ACCORD members who have stepped down.

In appreciation of their service, Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Defence, Dr Ng Eng Hen, hosted a farewell lunch for them at the Temasek Club on 8 Jul.
