TRADOC WELCOMES NEW COMMANDER
18 Jun 2007
He will always be remembered as the man who stayed back for meetings with his subordinates until nine in the night.
But Brigadier-General (BG) Hugh Lim will also be fondly remembered by them as the commander who reads through every single page of the thick meeting files and one who sought feedback from people who might not necessarily share his viewpoints.
In a ceremony held at Pasir Laba Camp on 4 Jun, BG Lim handed over the reins of Headquarters Training and Doctrine (TRADOC) to BG Goh Kee Nguan, who was previously Chief Guards Officer.
In his farewell speech, BG Lim, who assumes the position of Chief of Staff (General Staff), said: "It is a unique experience to lead such a dedicated pool of officers and men.
"The spirit of the people who make up TRADOC represents everything which is good about our Army."
During his one-and-a-half year stint as Commander TRADOC, BG Lim saw the formation of the Training Hub, and the establishment of training institutes and a training centre to conduct combined arms training for the Brigades under Headquarters 6th Singapore Division.
The commissioning of the Battlefield Instrumentation System (BFI) last September also marked an important chapter in BG Lim's stay in TRADOC.
When asked what were some future challenges TRADOC had to face, the new commander, BG Goh, said: "The Army is a huge community and we deal with many people. The main challenge that TRADOC and I will face is the size of the Army. We've to remember that whatever we do concerns people, from our regulars to Full-time National Servicemen and Operationally Ready NSmen."
He added that the key for TRADOC would be how it could develop the Army into "a learning Army, a thinking Army."
"Since we're all part of the training community, it's all about people and as long as everyone works well together to support one another, there should be no problem achieving our objectives."
